Louisiana residents suffering from health problems as a result of the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico can take advantage of the return of a free clinic run by the National Association of Free Clinics. The organization previously operated in the area five years ago, in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.

While the oil spill has caused health problems in the Gulf coast area, the NAFC says that the clinic will be open to any area residents who lack health insurance and need medical care. The clinic will be open on Tuesday, August 31 and Wednesday, September 1, according to the NAFC.

NAFC executive director Nicole Lamoureux said that “as an oil-related disaster threatens the livelihoods of many of the area’s residents, those who still need help will find free medical care there and be connected to additional resources available to them.”

Experts say that regular checkups are essential to preserving health, and that those who stay healthy could be eligible for more attractively priced health and life insurance.
