VA Honors Service Members Through Group Life Insurance

Each year on the Fourth of July, our nation remembers and honors those veterans who have dedicated their lives to serving our nation. Communities all throughout the nation put on parades, families host reunions, park districts arrange fireworks displays and people partake in America’s pastime but, regardless of your plans, always remember to honor those who fought for our freedom.

Following the conclusion of World War I, the United States government began offering group life insurance through the Department of Veterans Affairs as the nation lost hundreds of thousands of servicemen and women.

Through this initiative, the VA can now help secure you and your family’s future with the help of several different life insurance programs.

The VA currently offers six different types of life insurance programs:

· Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance

· Veteran’s Group Life Insurance

· Family Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance

· Servicemembers’ Group Insurance Traumatic Injury Protection

· Service-Disabled Veterans’ Life Insurance

· Veteran’s Mortgage Life Insurance

Each of these programs offers their own unique policy tailored to fit that specific group of service members.

According to the VA, these six programs provide 1.1 trillion dollars in insurance coverage to 4.5 million veterans, active-duty service members, reservists and Guardsmen, plus three million spouses and children.
