Another flu season is right around the corner, and public health officials are taking the opportunity to remind people to take precautions like getting vaccinated.

The World Health Organization recently declared an end to the global pandemic of the H1N1 flu virus.

In highlighting the announcement though, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services noted that the risk of serious illness and even death is still very much a reality.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 36,000 people die each year from seasonal influenza. Thousands more are hospitalized or sickened each year, which helps underscore the importance of getting vaccinated against the flu.

Some people are at greater risk than others for the flu. For example, health officials advise diabetics, pregnant women, young children and others with serious health problems like asthma to get vaccinated.

In light of the serious danger that illness like the flu can present even to healthier people, it makes sense to invest in a life insurance policy. After all, illnesses and other conditions can strike almost anywhere with little warning, which is why it’s best to be prepared at all times.
