Emergency medical technicians have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, as any number of things can go wrong when working in emergency situations.
One such unforeseen danger reared its head last week in Mont Vernon, New Hampshire, when a would-be patient attacked three paramedics after a 911 call, the Bedford (New Hampshire) Cabinet Press reported. The attack, which both police and the ambulance company called “sudden and unprovoked,” came as the EMTs reported to the home of a woman reporting difficulty breathing.
One EMT was left with a fractured wrist, and the others picked up a number of bruises and scrapes, the Cabinet Press reported.
Such attacks may be a surprise, but they’re part of the job for emergency workers, who have a job already fraught with danger from possible infection with a number of various diseases. A recent report from the website Financial Edge listed nurses and other healthcare personnel as having one of the six surprisingly dangerous jobs.
As with all jobs that come with the threat of death, all healthcare workers should consider taking out a life insurance policy to provide for their loved ones in the event of an accident.
